Inaugural Post: A Eugene Classic

Welcome to the Eugene Restaurant Review blog! Here you will find my expert reviews on all the places to eat in Eugene. I will include fast food, slow food, good food and bad food.  I have been living in Eugene for 20 years and have been eating out for one to three meals a day for that entire time.  I've seen eateries come and go; some were celebrated and some were deeply mourned.  Therefore, as a constant restaurant visitor, I am in the best position to alert to you all Eugene has to offer.  And of course, I welcome your suggestions of places to try and report back on!

We begin with a Eugene classic: Jiffy Market Wine & Deli.  If you haven't eaten here, you simply must. If you're a typical Eugenian, you won't mind the somewhat dingy beer-mart decor inside, which includes tables at which to enjoy your meal.  There is also a nice outdoor patio for those sunny days, where smoking is allowed more than 10 feet from the door.  Or take it to go!  Staff are also typically Eugene, appropriately friendly and helpful.  Driving by you would never guess that this seeming hole in the wall cooks up the best deli-type food in Eugene. Check it out:

The fare: sandwiches, soups, appetizers, salads, large selection of bottled beer and wine
The must-have: eggsalad sandwich and bacon cheddar fries with ranch dip
The dough: sandwiches run around $5-6 for a whole (you can go half), and the bacon cheese fries are $3.75
The time: slowish (just because it's a deli doesn't mean it's fast)
The location: 3443 Hilyard St, Eugene

You could easily drive past this place and not even notice it, but now that you know, you will never miss it again. Go and have some fries with your sandwich and tell me what you think.
